The Las Carabelas complex is situated next to the hotel Santa Maria in Torviscas. A lovely little complex that many people will never get to know about as it is hidden away up a little side street, just far enough back to offer a very peaceful and quite environment whilst still being located in the heart of Torviscas and close to the beach.
From the airport the ride can take about 15 mins tops, it’s about 20 kms and costs around 25€ to the front (and only) entrance. The complex is secured and owners all have their own keys to the entrance.
The security is great there are around 6 cameras on the complex which will give you a nice safe feeling these. The camera at the entrance is linked to all the apartments via an intercom system which can be viewed on your TV so you can verify your visitors and buzz them in.
There are two swimming pools on this complex one which is heated all year round, the other (the bigger of the two) has just gone through a major facelift and now looks stunning. All apartments have two sunbeds allocated specifically to them and the sun terraces around the pool area are spacious meaning there is plenty of room for everyone although you would be lucky to see more then ten people around the pool at anytime of the year. The smaller of the two pools is also wheelchair friendly meaning disabled guests have full access. This year, the smaller pool is scheduled for full refurbishment and retiling like the top pool. The new non-slip tiles have been purchased and the work is currently being priced up.
There are only 87 properties on this complex, the majority of which are one bedroom apartments. There is a decent number of two bed apartments and a small number of 3/4 beds. This is one of the best residential complexes in Torviscas. It has a very well run community, the vice president and president are both British, very approachable and pro-active. Consequently, community fees are kept low because of how well run it is and the fact that there are no lifts or reception on the complex. There are two maintenance staff who work very hard to keep the complex up to the high standard it is today it. Keeping the flower beds blooming and ending the cacti and fruit trees on this mini oasis.
Las Carabelas is one of the smaller complexes in the area. Property prices on Las Carabelas are generally quite high. To give you an idea recently a one bedroom in good condition, on one level and in a good position sold for 150,000€ which is by far the best price for a long time. Also sold this year was a two bedroom duplex in need of full refurbishment and without but it did have a garden. This went for 205,000€ and was a real bargain given its size.
One beds are quite large, some with vaulted ceilings, many of them are over two floors (duplex apartments.) A lot are bungalows meaning little noise as no-one is above or below you. There will never be a lot of properties for sale on Las Carabelas as it is very much a sought after complex and well priced properties do tend to sell quickly. But there there are a few that have been on the market for years, well over priced and simply not realistic. These ones have little to no chance of selling and really should be avoided, you are better of waiting for a better price.
The location is perfect, two minutes from Play a La Pinta beach, only minutes from the supermarkets and a very short walk to the many nice restaurants in the area. Las Carabelas is popular with older residents and owners because there are very few steps on the complex, Both Las Carabelas and the surrounding area are very flat in general although to get to the beach you do have to stroll down a small hill! But overall it is ideal for wheelchair users and those who may have mobility issues.
A recent improvement the community decided on was a new water filtration system which was added just over a year ago. You now have fresh drinking water from the taps in all apartments which means no more struggling back from the supermarket with 8 litre bottles.
There is also WiFi available to everyone on Las Carabelas all you have to do is ask the president for the code and for a small charge you can have WiFi without having to have a phone line installed. The complex has a good few TV channels to pick from including sports channels, BBC1, BBC2, ITV CH4, CH5 and a few more.
